About Our Coaching Staff
Any team is only as good as its ability to work together, and coaches are a key part of creating the community that defines THE GREAT BLIZZARDS SPECIAL HOCKEY. Along with the generosity of our sponsors, we are blessed to have the following coaches with their vast hockey and life experience, empathy, patience, energy and enthusiasm:
Coach Hillary Jorgensen - The Great Blizz Head Coach, Coach Hillary was a founding player and Captain of the Acton Boxborough Girls Varsity Hockey Team, played club hockey at Wheaton College and has coached for Plymouth Youth Hockey since 2013. Coach Hillary's love for the game passed on to her daughters; the oldest of which, Rowan, is one of our most consistent assistant coaches.
Coach Travis Dupuis - A versatile dedicated supporter of Special Needs as a Special Educator at Marshfield High and a 12-year veteran Varsity High School Coach who is nationally and MIAA Certified, Coach Travis has hit the ice quickly and already impacting The Great Blizz program with his enthusiasm, knowledge and selfless giving. His recruiting and fundraising skills are as fine as his sharp-shooting wrist shot!
Coach Steven Cowing - Sporting a long hockey resume since his days playing Pembroke Youth Hockey, Coach Steven has been volunteering his time at the New England Village in Pembroke since 2011. Coach Cowing brings his youthful and playful demeanor to the team, on and off the ice, and has been a staple on the SELECT team against the Boston Bruins Alumni.
Coach Eric Johnson - A former manager of the Bog Ice Arena who had been working there since age 16, Coach Eric has been most recently coaching at Sacred Heart High and the Bay State Breakers with a long history of running Learn to Skate programs and can be found dominating pickup games. Coach Eric brings his enthusiasm to the ice every session, and is especially tough when we play the Boston Bruins Alumni.
Coach Tomm Turner - One of our top-notch goalie experts, Coach Tomm began with The Great Blizz as a Assistant Coach and quickly earned the title of Coach. The goalie on our SELECT team which plays against the Boston Bruins Alumni, Coach Tomm takes great pride is passing on his knowledge between the pipes to our Great Blizz players and is a tireless and charitable purveyor of equipment for our team, always delivering for the team like the U.S. Postal Service.
Coach Liz Lauzon - A former trailblazer college player with 9 years of coaching youth hockey, Coach Liz also has been working with Learn to Play programs for 12 years while professionally attending to adults with Acquired Brain Injuries. She is still competitive between the pipes in national tourneys and is up for every challenge.
Coach Michael Breen - In 2018, after 21 years, Coach Mike retired from coaching high school hockey. But not before winning States with his 2006-2007 Scituate High team. A fitting story to a Scituate High hockey hero himself in the '70s. He's passed down the good genes to daughter Emma, a Great Blizz assistant coach and premier prep hockey player and now college freshman.
Coach John Nathan - a lifelong coach and sports enthusiast, Coach John has shared his mastery of hockey, basketball, soccer and other sports at the youth level, including Bourne High School and Pembroke Youth Hockey. As a soccer coach, Coach John has 4 US Soccer Federation Coaching Licenses - USSF "D" "E" "F" and "G." And a USA Hockey Level 3 CEP Certification. He's even qualified to wear the zebra shirt!
Coach Ben Perrotta - A native of Plymouth, Coach Ben comes to The Great Blizz after 10 years coaching Plymouth Youth teams, which included his son. As a SELECT Player for The Great Blizz when we play the Boston Bruins Alumni, Coach Ben sure can cover a lot of real estate on the ice.
Coach Joe Coletti - a fixture on the Duxbury hockey scene, Coach Joe has managed youth programs for the Duxbury Youth Hockey and Bay State Breakers programs for years. With a USA Hockey Level 4 Certification, the career forward at New England College brings professionalism and positive thinking to The Great Blizz. Off ice, Coach Joe is the radio voice behind the popular "Friends with Benefits" program on WATD 95.9FM
Coach Adam Bellantoni - The first guy on the ice, setting up long before practice begins, Coach Adam coached Bourne Youth Soccer and has coached his wife's women's hockey tournaments. A dedicated hockey couple, the Bellantonis were married on the ice at Warrior Ice Arena.
Coach Jim Coffey - For such a young-looking guy, Coach Jim has been playing hockey for 53 years! He was a coach of Quincy Youth and sports a Level 3 USA Hockey Coach designation. He also is an MIAA and ISL official. When not building up our Great Blizz players, Coach Jim spends countless hours reffing games.
Coach David Kearney - Assisting Coach Joe with the Bay State Breakers for years, Coach David has found his nirvana, a team where he can coach, and where his son David can thrive. A longtime Bobby Orr fan (who isn't?) and current Brad Marchand booster, Coach David brings great enthusiasm and energy to the team.
Coach Matt Norton - An off-season acquisition and new to the Blizz for the 2021-2022 season, Coach Matt has a most impressive resume as a long-time Pembroke Youth Hockey and Bay State Breakers coach. But he's also made his mark on the grass too, with long coaching stints with Pembroke's youth lacrosse and soccer teams.
