About Our Coaching Staff

Any team is only as good as its ability to work together, and coaches are a key part of creating the community that defines THE GREAT BLIZZARDS SPECIAL HOCKEY. Along with the generosity of our sponsors, we are blessed to have the following coaches with their vast hockey and life experience, empathy, patience, energy and enthusiasm:

KINGSTON COACHING STAFF

Coach Liz Lauzon - A former trailblazer college player with 9 years of coaching youth hockey, Coach Liz also has been working with Learn to Play programs for 12 years while professionally attending to adults with Acquired Brain Injuries. She is still competitive between the pipes in national tourneys and is up for every challenge.

Coach Michael Breen - In 2018, after 21 years, Coach Mike retired from coaching high school hockey. But not before winning States with his 2006-2007 Scituate High team. A fitting story to a Scituate High hockey hero himself in the '70s. He's passed down the good genes to daughter Emma, a Great Blizz assistant coach and premier prep hockey player and now college coed.

Coach Ken Silva - Coach Ken has been involved with hockey since he was first on skates at 5 years old. He is a Cape Cod native and an avid Boston Bruins fan who lettered at Barnstable High School. He has been coaching both his sons in the South Shore Seahawks town program since 2015 and is currently a CEP Level 4 working on his Level 5 CEP Certification with USA Hockey, the highest certification you can get for coaching hockey.

Coach John Nathan - a lifelong coach and sports enthusiast, Coach John has shared his mastery of hockey, basketball, soccer and other sports at the youth level, including Bourne High School and Pembroke Youth Hockey. As a soccer coach, Coach John has 4 US Soccer Federation Coaching Licenses - USSF "D" "E" "F" and "G."  And a USA Hockey Level 4 CEP Certification. Thru Hockey Canada and Hockey Saskatchewan he is a certified Respect in Sport Activity Leader.  In days gone by, he was even seen wearing the zebra shirt! Coach John helps us to maintain our world-class learn-to-skate program.

Coach Joe Coletti - a fixture on the Duxbury hockey scene, Coach Joe has managed youth programs for the Duxbury Youth Hockey and Bay State Breakers programs for years. With a USA Hockey Level 4 Certification, the career forward at New England College brings professionalism and positive thinking to The Great Blizz. Off ice, Coach Joe is the radio voice behind the popular "Friends with Benefits" program on  WATD 95.9FM

Coach Paul Varley - Starting late in life, Coach Paul still found a passion and drive for all things hockey. You may have even seen some of his off-ice handy work for the Blizz whether a sticker on a helmet, magnet on your fridge or car or even a cool new event logo (summer camp, July parade, SHI Boston 2024). Ever generous with his time, Coach Paul can also be found coaching in less fortunate hockey communities across the globe with Friendship League.

OUR COACHING STAFF HAS SPECIAL NEEDS AND ICE HOCKEY EXPERIENCE

Without doubt, The Great Blizz has the BEST Coaches in all of hockey. Our Coaches are of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, but they share a common bond - a love of hockey and a love of volunteering to help others who love hockey as well. Many of our coaches are special educators and all are experience ice hockey players.
